Projects and Events

Welcome to the Bruce Peninsula Environment Group's Projects and Events Page. Here you will receive information on the heartbeat of the group. Find out about BPEG's past, present, and future projects and events by following the links.

The group is active within the community, and has taken a leadership role in initiatives such as community recycling, the advocacy of sustainable forestry practices, public awareness about dark sky pollution and about the hazards of pesticides. The group has hosted two very successful Earthday Expo's, a community visioning forum, a forestry workshop, and most recently, two well attended sustainable energy tours. Read on and learn more about these and other initiatives, and what you can expect from BPEG in the future.

Forestry

In the spring of 1999 a strong contingent from BPEG voiced concern to council that all residents of the Bruce Peninsula would lose out if we allowed unmanaged cutting of white cedar to continue. BPEG presented council with a request that a task force be formed to study the issue. Other stake holders agreed, and the White Cedar Working Committee was struck. The recommendations that came from this committee led to the writing of a new county wide bylaw that came into force in 2004. BPEG's Forestry Committee has worked hard for legislative changes and on educational programs that aim for good forestry practices being used on the Bruce Peninsula and in Bruce County.
